Summary of Incident
Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters)
Summary:
On Wednesday evening, November 27, 2019, just before 10:00pm, Fort Worth Police Department officers
observed a vehicle matching the description of a vehicle that was stolen in a car jacking by a suspect that had
just been involved in a shooting at a near by motel. The officers attempted a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle
but the suspect failed to stop and drove for approximately two blocks on Vaughn Avenue before turning onto
Avenue N where he abruptly stopped the vehicle in the middle of the street keeping his foot on the brake. The
officers initiated a felony stop with numerous officers giving loud verbal commands to the suspect, but the
suspect did not respond. The call was treated as a barricaded subject and SWAT was dispatched to the
scene. After about an hour, the officers utilized a drone to view the inside of the vehicle. The suspect was
seated in the front seat with his head tilted to one side and there was no movement from inside the vehicle.
The officers approached the vehicle and it was determined that the suspect had a self inflicted gunshot
wound to his head. MedStar approached the vehicle to provide any medical treatment necessary and located
the suspect in the drivers seat with a handgun on the passenger seat. He had a gunshot wound to his head
with no pulse and he was not breathing. His pupils were fixed and dilated and death was verified at 10:02 pm.
The death was treated as an in custody and the Major Case unit was notified for the Critical Police Incident.
