Summary:
Decedent was pulled over for unconfirmed insurance, a minor traffic violation. Decedent failed to identify and
refused to exit the vehicle claiming that he would die if he did. Decedent claimed there was a weapon pointed
at him. Decedent stated that he was either going to die or get shot by a police officer. Decedent stated that if
he removed his foot from the brake of his vehicle the vehicle would explode. Decedent had a pistol
underneath him in the vehicle. Additional agencies were called to the scene including SWAT. After a standoff
spanning multiple hours SWAT deployed gas to get the decedent to exit the vehicle. When SWAT deployed
the gas into the vehicle, the decedent shot himself in the chest. Decedent was transported to JPS hospital
and expired in route. No Officer from the Watauga Police Department discharged any weapon. The Tarrant
County Medical Examiner ruled the manner of death was suicide, and the cause of death was gunshot wound
of the chest.
