Under Restraint: No Summary of Incident Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters) Summary: Officers received information from another jurisdiction that a subject, Brandon Cruz, was headed towards Boerne on FM 1376 in a black Ford Mustang with gold racing stripes. It was reported that Cruz was suicidal, and his father had to take a gun away from Cruz which was previously in his mouth. It was also reported that Cruz may have other firearms. Kendall County SO attempted to stop Cruz but he evaded. After a lengthy pursuit, KCSO backed off and Boerne PD officers and TX DPS attempted to stop Cruz as he entered the city limits of Boerne. Cruz continued to evade. The officers lost sight of Cruz in the area of the 800 block of Johns Road. After searching the area, a civilian notified the trooper that he saw the vehicle drive to the back of the apartment complex at 825 Johns Road. Officers located Cruz in his vehicle in the rear of the complex not in a parking spot. Cruz struck the trooper's vehicle as they arrived, attempting to flee. The Boerne PD officer ordered Cruz out by gun point, but Cruz failed to obey commands. Cruz used his cell phone as a simulated handgun (held in the manner you would a firearm and pointed it at the officer). The officer identified that it was a cell phone and continued to tell Cruz to exit the vehicle. Cruz then accelerated at a high rate of speed backwards into the Boerne PD unit. Cruz then started to drive forward towards the TX DPS trooper.
