Summary of Incident
Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters)
Summary:
Deputy Andrew Robles and Sgt. Tom Dudley were dispatched to a shooting in the 100 block of Bent Tree,
with the dispatcher providing details that the subject just fired a gun and that a male subject was standing in
the middle of the roadway in his underwear shooting. The dispatcher advised they had received multiple calls
about this, advising that the subject had a handgun and tried to shoot at the 911 caller, and the male was
stopping other vehicles from going down the roadway. Prior to the deputies’ arrival, the subject fired a shot at

civilian Courtney Wiggins and pointed his weapon at civilian Stephen Martin. Multiple deputies and officers
responded to the scene and on their arrival, located the male subject approximately 100 feet in front of a
marked KCSO unit. As deputies gave commands to the subject, he bent over and picked up items in his left
and right hand and began walking towards the deputies. Deputies continued to give commands for the
subject to show them his hands and stop walking towards them. At one point, the subject complied and
turned away from the deputies, at which time they observed a black, semiautomatic handgun in the subject’s
left hand. Deputies gave commands to drop the gun and get on the ground, however the subject ignored
these commands and turned back towards the deputies and then appeared to be looking past the vehicle
lights, looking for something or someone. Deputies continued to give commands to drop the gun, which the
subject ignored, and then the subject began walking in the direction of the deputies. As the subject got closer
to the deputies, the subject raised the gun from his side to his hip, pointing it in the direction of the deputies.
Believing the subject was about to discharge his weapon at them, deputies fired their weapons at the subject
until he fell to the ground and the threat ended. Immediate medical aid was given to the subject, however the
subject died at the scene.
