Summary of Incident
Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters)
Summary:
San Antonio Police (SAPD) Officers were dispatched to call for a male, the decedent, walking around talking
to himself and who was potentially under the influence of narcotics. When Officers arrived on scene, they
found the decedent standing in the street seemingly oblivious to his surroundings and the fact a car was
approaching. Officers approached the decedent, detained him for his safety, and moved him from the street.
Officers questioned the decedent to ascertain his information but the decedent would not or could not provide
the information. Officers requested EMS then placed the decedent inside the back seat of a patrol car with the
door open and the air conditioning on full. A San Antonio Fire (SAFD) truck arrived and the members began
checking on the decedent’s vitals. The SAFD personnel removed the decedent from the patrol car and seated
him on the ground. While SAFD personnel were attending to the decedent, the decedent became agitated
and hit his head on the door of the vehicle. The decedent then stood up and attempted to walk away,
potentially back into the street. SAPD officers grabbed the decedent and escorted him to a patch of grass
where they placed him on the ground while waiting for an EMS unit. While on the ground, the decedent
struggled and attempted to free himself. Fearing the decedent would run into traffic, the officers maintained
custody of the male. As EMS arrived, the officers noticed the decedent stopped breathing. The officers began
CPR initially and then EMS took over medical care. The decedent was transported to a local hospital where
he was pronounced deceased.
