Summary of Incident
Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters)
Summary:
On 12/10/2023, at approximately 0820 hrs, San Antonio Park Police Officers were dispatched to 475 Apache
Creek Greenway for a 911 open line disturbance. The caller could be overheard telling someone they knew
they were “wanted”, which was presumed to mean they were a fugitive. Arriving officers located a female and
a male (the decedent). The officers obtained identifying information and ran routine checks on the individuals;
however, the information provided by the decedent was not corroborated with computer research. Since the
decedent may have provided false identifying information, the officers went to detain the decedent so they
could investigate further. When the officers approached, the decedent fled on foot from the officers, jumping a

fence and going out of sight into a yard. One officer went into a back yard and heard a noise emitting from a
storage shed. Believing it could be the decedent, the officer gave commands for the decedent to exit the
shed. The decedent exited the shed and immediately walked toward the officer stating he was not going back
to jail and the officer would have to kill him. The officer deployed his taser; however, the taser device was
ineffective and did not stop the decedent’s approach. The decedent then reached for, and took hold of, the
officer’s service weapon. The decedent and the officer fell to the ground in a struggle for the firearm. A
second Park Police Officer heard the struggle and arrived at the scene. This officer also attempted to use his
taser on the decedent; however, it was ineffective. This second officer feared for his safety and the safety of
the other officer due to the decedent having a hold of the first officer’s firearm. The second officer fired one
round into the decedent to end his course of conduct. The officers placed the decedent in handcuffs. EMS
was requested and they would ultimately pronounce the decedent at the scene.
