Custodial Death Report :: Page 6 of 7
--- PAGE BREAK ---
Officers were dispatched to the incident location in reference to an in-progress trespassing / aggravated
assault call. Upon arrival two patrol deputies arrived on scene with a Patrol Sergeant to find the Decedent
inside of a residence at that location without the consent of the owner. The officers made contact with the
Decedent, who was on a second floor loft, and ordered her down. The Decedent displayed a folding knife,
and put it in her left front pant pocket with the blade exposed. She then retrieved a large fixed bladed knife
from the loft and set it near by. The Sergeant partially ascended the ladder to the loft and ordered the
Decedent to drop the knife several times. Despite multiple commands, the Decedent refused to put the knife
down and OC spray was deployed. When the OC spray did not gain her compliance, the deputies deployed
TASERs three times and she was able to remove the prongs. The Decedent then made an aggressive
movement with the knife toward the Sergeant who was on the ladder and within the reach of the Decedent's
weapon. The deputies on the lower level fired six rounds at her, striking her six times. EMS was called to the
scene and performed life-saving measures but were unable to prevent her death.
