Under Restraint: No Summary of Incident Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters) Summary: On January 4th, 2023, officers were called to the Luxury Inn Motel for a man who was allegedly intoxicated and displaying a handgun in an intimidating manner to individuals nearby. Two officers responded to the location. One officer went to the upstairs room where the decedent was said to be staying, while the other officer remained on the ground level speaking to a witness. When the officer who went upstairs knocked on the motel room door, the decedent came out of the room with what appeared to be a handgun. The decedent was ordered to drop the gun, but instead the decedent raised the weapon and pointed it in a threatening manner at the officer who was on the landing. The officer on the landing, and the officer on the ground, both perceived a deadly threat and both officers discharged their duty handguns toward the decedent. The decedent was struck multiple times. The decedent was then taken into custody and medical aid was rendered as soon as possible by the officers on scene. EMS arrived and transported the decedent to the University Hospital on Medical Drive. It was later determined the weapon possessed by the decedent was an air pistol. The decedent was charged with two counts of terroristic threat - peace officer, and custody of the decedent Custodial Death Report :: Page 6 of 7 --- PAGE BREAK --- was transferred to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office. The decedent remained in the custody of the Bexar County Sheriff's Office while at the University Hospital.
