Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters)
Summary:
On August 25, 2020, at 3:49 PM, deputies responded to 11207 Liberty Field for a Welfare Check. Damian
Daniels’ brother had called Bexar County Dispatch from out of state and requested deputies check on his
brother (Damian Daniels). It was reported Damian Daniels was going through a paranoid episode due to three
recent deaths in the family and Damian began having hallucinations following the loss of the most recent
family member. The initial attempt to make contact with Damian Daniels by law enforcement was
unsuccessful. However, at about 4:48 PM, Deputy M. Gariffa, Deputy E. Cepeda, and Deputy J. Rodriguez
attempted contact again at the request of Damian Daniels’ brother.
According to the details available, Damian answered the door with a handgun holstered in his waistband,
which was visible to the deputies attempting to provide Damian Daniels help. Deputies attempted to establish
rapport with Damian for several minutes but were not successful. After several minutes of speaking to
Damian, the incident escalated into a physical struggle when deputies tried to detain Damian Daniels. During
the struggle, Damian would not release the firearm he was in possession of and deputies deployed their

Rodriguez’s Taser. While the deputies struggled with Damian Daniels, in close quarters, Damian Daniels’
firearm was pointed at Deputy Cepeda. Deputy Rodriguez discharged his duty weapon at Damian Daniels
twice and Damian Daniels suffered two gunshot wounds. Damian Daniels was subsequently pronounced
deceased at the incident location.
