Summary of Incident
Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters)
Summary:
In gist, on 09/08/2019, at about 0007 hours, Carlos Gonzalez contacted the mother of his children, Veronica
Lara, at her residence: 8819 Straight Oaks. Also present at Veronica’s residence was her current boyfriend,
Thomas Cuellar. At some point, Gonzalez shot both Veronica and Thomas with a firearm; Veronica fled on
foot from the residence, was chased by Gonzalez, and allegedly dragged back to the residence. The Bexar
County Sheriff's Office responded and both Veronica and Thomas were removed from the scene and
transported to hospital in critical condition. Gonzalez had barricaded himself inside the aforementioned
residence and negotiations ensued to resolve the incident and place Gonzalez under arrest for two counts of
aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (warrants for each charge were applied for and granted while
negotiations were taking place). Negotiations did not resolve the standoff and several hours thereafter the
utilities to the residence were shut off. The residence was gassed by the SWAT team and during this time an
officer reportedly heard a pop. Subsequently, Gonzalez was discovered in an upstairs crawl space with what
appeared to be an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Later, Gonzalez was transported to the Bexar
County Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy; his cause of death is listed as gunshot wound of the head and
his manner of death was ruled a suicide.
