On March 24, 2024, at approximately 4:16 a.m., while making a medical round to pass out medications and administer finger sticks (check blood sugar), the Decedent was found unresponsive by Registered Nurse (RN) O. Agnes and Dallas County Sheriff's Department Detention Service Officers (DSO) E. Haskins #8301 and Z Kahn #8926. RN Agnes started Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). The Decedent regained a pulse and CPR was stopped at 4:46 a.m. The Decedent was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital (PMH) at 4:51 a.m. On March 26, 2024, the Decedent was pronounced deceased at 4:20 a.m., by Dr. Muhammed Abu Rmaileh. Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences at Dallas Autopsy Report Based on the available case history and autopsy findings, it is my opinion that Angelica Martin Martinez, a 48-year-old woman, died as result of Diabetes mellitus and its complications. Although her hospital course was complicated and the admitting diagnosis unclear, given the combination of autopsy findings, lack of other natural disease, noncontributory toxicology, and consistently elevated glucose levels, diabetic ketoacidosis is Custodial Death Report :: Page 6 of 7 --- PAGE BREAK --- the most likely diagnosis. The hypoglycemia diagnosed initially was likely an artifact of cardiopulmonary arrest. While no seizure focus was identified at autopsy, epilepsy cannot be excluded as having contributed to her death. MANNER OF DEATH: Natural Jill E. Urban, M.D. Medical Examiner 06/03/2024 Custodial Death Report :: Page 7 of 7
