Summary of Incident
Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters)
Summary:
On 6/27/24, at 2034 hours, San Antonio Police Officers were requested to 5103 S Flores. The location is a
grocery store. Calls were being made to police stating the decedent was inside the store, wearing only
underwear, and was acting erratically. Call details stated the decedent had “grabbed a female”, implying the
potential for aggression or an assault may have taken place. An SAPD officer entered the store and observed
citizens trying to control the decedent. Due to the erratic behavior of the decedent, the officer gave verbal
commands and attempted to physically restrain the decedent. The decedent disobeyed verbal commands
and physically resisted being detained. With the assistance of two citizens, the decedent was taken to the
ground and eventually placed in handcuffs and detained. While handcuffed, the lone officer kept the decedent
in the prone position to prevent the decedent from rising off the ground. After a short period of time the
decedent became unresponsive. The initial officer, as well as other arriving officers, immediately removed the
handcuffs and initiated CPR on the decedent. EMS arrived and would ultimately pronounce the decedent as
deceased at the scene.
