Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters)
Summary:
On October 28, 2024, a female complainant walked into the Houston Police Department Midwest DRT
storefront to report domestic violence. Shortly after, reports were received that the female complainant and
her child had been kidnapped by force.
Officers located the suspect vehicle and attempted a felony traffic stop, but the suspect discharged a firearm
at officers on tow separate occasions and refused to stop. This led to a pursuit that ended on the inbound
lanes of the Southwest Freeway (I69) when officers performed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) on
the suspect vehicle.
The suspect's vehicle came to a stop on the interstate, and one officer observed the suspect holding a pistol.
Due to the suspect's prior actions of shooting at officers and possessing a firearm with tow hostages in the
vehicle, officers discharged their duty weapons. The suspect, identified as Wilmer Sanchez-Hernandez from
Venezuela, was struck and pronounced deceased at the scene. The two hostages, and adult female and a
juvenile male, were rescued unharmed.
