Officers arrived to fine the front door of a business located in a strip center had been struck by gunfire and a patron inside the business had a non-penetrating gunshot wound to the head. Officers were told that the suspect was refused entry and shortly after fired shots into the business. Witnesses also told officers the suspect was hiding in an adjacent business. Officers entered the adjacent business to search for the suspect when Officer J. Duncan located the suspect hiding in a cramped area inside the attic. Officer Duncan ordered the suspect to show his hands when the suspect fired a shot. Officer Duncan, fearing for his life of other officers, returned fire and retreated from the business. SWAT was called for a barricaded suspect and later determined the suspect was deceased in the attic. A firearm was found next to the suspect's body. The medical examiner's office determined the suspect had one shot to the head (appeared self inflicted) and one shot to the chest area (possible secondary wound by officer). Medical Examiner's report is still pending. The citizen who was struck by the suspect's gunfire was treated at the scene by the Houston Fire Department and released with minor injuries.
