Under Restraint: No Summary of Incident Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters) Summary: On 08-04-2021, Inmate Tarrance Johnson was booked into the Denton County Jail for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon by the Dallas Area Rapid Transit Police Department. On 08-24-2021, while sweeping the dayroom area in Main Jail, B-01 housing, Inmate Johnson fell onto the floor appearing to have a possible seizure. The other inmates alerted detention staff who subsequently called a medical emergency. Correctional Health staff responded and Denton Fire EMS was called. Inmate Johnson was transported to Medical City of Denton. It was later learned that Inmate Johnson went into cardiac arrest and reportedly crashed at least 5 times during life-saving measures. He was later shown to have no brain activity. Inmate Johnson was released from the custody of Denton County Jail on 08-30-2021 for humanitarian reasons in order for family members to be able to make decisions about maintaining life support. Inmate Johnson was an organ donor and his life ceased on 09-02-2021, in order for his organs to be harvested. We are still awaiting the medical examiner's report regarding actual time of death and attending physician's name. The investigation has been turned over to Texas Ranger Jeremy Wallace.
