Summary of Incident
Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters)
Summary:
On May 14, 2016 around 4:15 am inmates in the Bowie County Annex requested assistance from the jail staff
for a fellow inmate who needed medical attention. When the correctional officers arrived at the cell, they
found Staci Rochelle Washington on the floor next the toilet. Mrs. Washington was responsive, but unable to
speak with the officers. The jail medical staff was immediately contacted for assistance. They removed Mrs.
Washington from the cell via a wheelchair and took her to the infirmary. When they arrived, Mrs.
Washington’s pulse had weakened. The medical staff began CPR on Mrs. Washington and called for
an ambulance to take her to the hospital. By the time Life Net personnel arrived, Mrs. Washington had
passed away. Bowie County Deputy Randall Baggett responded to this call. He secured the scene and called
for a Bowie County Sheriff’s Office investigator. Captain Jerl Palmore and Investigator Chad Ford
answered this call and processed the scene at the jail. They found no signs of foul play involved with Mrs.
Washington’s death. Judge Nancy Talley ordered that Mrs. Washington be sent off for an autopsy.
The resultes of this autopsy are pending toxicology/histology.
