On September 8, 2021, an inmate notified deputies, the decedent fell off his bunk, hit his head, and needed medical attention. Medical staff transported the decedent to the clinic, was treated, and returned to his cell. Hours later, the decedent was transported back to the clinic for confusion and a pale appearance. Paramedics were called, and the decedent was transported to Ben Taub Hospital for a higher level of care.
