Summary:
Roydell Cleaver was booked into Fort Bend County Jail on 1/14/2019, subsequent to issuance of a court
ordered commitment out of the 434th District Court (17-DCR-077512). Inmate Cleaver was housed within the
infirmary and had a pacemaker due to a pre-existing heart related condition. Mr. Cleaver became
unresponsive on 2/11/2019 at around 4:30 pm as he was preparing for a physician requested follow up
examination.
At the time he became unresponsive, Fort Bend EMS was notified and transported Roydell Cleaver to Oak
Bend Hospital in Richmond, Texas. Cleaver was admitted to the hospital, diagnosed with a heart blockage
and related multiple organ failure. During the course of receiving treatment, Roydell Cleaver’s condition
continued to decline until his ultimate death, which was pronounced at 5:03 a.m. on 2/12/2019.
Galveston County Chief Medical Examiner E. Barnhart conducted the autopsy of Roydell Cleaver on
2/14/2019 and determined death to be the result of one or more heart related complications. The specific
heart condition causing death will be determined upon completion of pathological examinations.
