Hanover Apartments. Officers learned from the call slip that a dark male dressed in all black had driven through the lobby of Hanover Apartments and was attacking people with a kitchen knife. Upon arrival officers observed a grey pickup truck smashed through the lobby entrance with an injured person laying on the ground. Officers observed a dark complected Hispanic male with curly hair wearing a black shirt and black pants whom they had identified as the suspect, walking away from the apartments. When the suspect saw the officers he turned around and began walking in their direction. The suspect was seen wielding a large kitchen knife approximately 10" in length. Officers repeatedly gave commands to approaching suspect to stop and drop the knife, but the suspect refused and continued to approach the officers. When the suspect got close enough, he lunged at the officers and the officers discharged their firearms. The suspect was stuck multiple time dropping the knife but getting up and attempting to flee the scene. Officers followed behind utilizing less lethal force and striking the suspect with a taser. Officers detained the suspect and went to render aid on the injured complainant who was pronounced deceased by HFD at 3:31 a.m. The suspect was transported to Ben Taub by HFD. Officers located an additional complainant who was stabbed in the back multiple times. He was transported to the hospital by HFD, treated for his injuries and later released. On 04/17/2022, While hospitalized, the suspect Ronnie Cesear Jr., was pronounced deceased by Dr. J. Ward at 10:34 a.m. Custodial Death Report :: Page 7 of 7
