Summary of Incident
Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters)
Summary:
On Wednesday, 12-19-2018, at approximately 9:17 P.M., the Bonham Police Chief contacted Texas Ranger
Brad Oliver and requested a Custodial Death Investigation of Robin Waldrop. Ranger Oliver responded to the
scene and initiated the investigation. Ranger Oliver processed the scene, collected evidence and obtained
written statements and video footage from body worn and in-car cameras, from multiple law enforcement
officers who were at the scene at the time of Waldrop’s death.
The following information was gleaned from Ranger Oliver’s investigation (Texas Ranger File
#2018I-TRB-50032331):
A). At approximately 4:36 P.M., Bonham Police Department (BPD) attempted to arrest Robin Waldrop, a 47
year old white male, on a Grayson County felony arrest warrant, at a residence located at 1220 South 5th
Street in Bonham. BPD detectives had identified Waldrop as a suspect in a Disorderly Conduct – Discharge
Firearm in a Public Place, which had occurred a few days prior in Bonham. From their investigations, the
detectives knew Waldrop was armed with a .357 Magnum handgun.
B). Based on the fact Waldrop was armed with a handgun and his extensive criminal history, BPD, Fannin
County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) and Texas Highway Patrol troopers (TXDPS) established a perimeter around
the residence Waldrop was staying in. A BPD detective utilized a bull-horn to communicate with Waldrop,
requesting Waldrop to exit the residence with his hands up.
C). A female who owned the residence was the first person to exit the front door with her hands up and
followed the verbal instructions given to her. Waldrop, armed with a handgun in his right hand, walked out the
front door but stopped on the front porch, stating he was not coming out, turned around and walked back into
the residence.
D). The detective continued to communicate with Waldrop, via the bull-horn; however, Waldrop refused all
demands for him to surrender to law enforcement. Waldrop made statements that he was not going back to
jail. Negotiations with Waldrop were ongoing until approximately 7:00 P.M., when Special Response Teams

(SRTs) from the Sherman Police Department (SPD) and the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office arrived assumed
tactical command.
E). At approximately 8:20 P.M., after further negotiations with Waldrop were futile, SPD SRT deployed
tear-gas into the residence, which elicited the immediate verbal response of, “Fuck you!” from Waldrop. A
single gunshot was then heard from inside the residence. No further communications was established with
Waldrop. The SRT eventually made entry into the residence and located Waldrop’s deceased body on the
couch in the living room.
F). Ranger Oliver documented no law enforcement officers discharged their firearms during this incident with
Waldrop.
G). Ranger Oliver documented Waldrop’s body position and recovered a .357 Magnum handgun resting on
Waldrop’s body. An exit wound was observed to the back of Waldrop’s head. An inspection of the revolver’s
cylinder revealed a spent cartridge case under the hammer. Blood spatter evidence on the wall directly
behind Waldrop aligned with his body positioning.
H). Texas Ranger Reuben Mankin attended the autopsy of Waldrop at the Collin County Medical Examiner’s
Office on 12-20-2018. The autopsy revealed Waldrop inserted the barrel of the revolver in his mouth before
pulling the trigger. The final autopsy is pending.
