Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters)
Summary:
On April 5, 2022 Killeen Police were dispatched to 3200 S. Ft Hood Rd in reference to a disturbance. Upon
arrival a Killeen Police Officer located the suspect in the parking lot of the business. The suspect was
admittedly "high" on narcotics and had been involved in several additional disturbances with unrelated
citizens. The officer attempted to take the suspect into custody and an altercation ensued. The officer
requested back up, and an additional officer arrived. The suspect continued to fight with both officers, and
became armed with a handcuff when he broke away from the officers. The suspect then charged at an officer.
Officers attempted to use a Taser on the suspect, and it was ineffective. One officer fired a single shot from
his handgun, striking the suspect. The suspect continued to physically resist the officer as they attempted to
provide first aid, while awaiting paramedics. The suspect was taken to the hospital and underwent multiple
surgeries over the following weeks. On April 26, 2022 the suspect died while still in the hospital. The autopsy
indicated that the suspect died as a result of organ failure and persistent sepsis as a result of the gunshot
wound.
