Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters)
Summary:
On Saturday, April 25, 2026, at approximately 2312 hours, the Houston Police Department (HPD) received
multiple 911 calls reporting an individual shooting at employees in the rear area of s Sam’s Club located at
13600 East Freeway. HPD Northeast Patrol officers were immediately dispatched to a “Shooting in Progress”

call for service. Upon arrival, officers observed that a rear fire exit door to the business was open. Officers
announced their presence at the doorway before making entry into the building.
Once inside, officers encountered a male suspect armed with a handgun and wearing body armor who began
firing at them from an officer area. Officers advanced toward the suspect and return fire. Three HPD officers
discharged their duty weapons, striking the suspect multiple times. After the suspect was incapacitated,
officers immediately rendered aid until he was transported by the Houston Fire Department (HFD) to a nearby
hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Medical staff pronounced the suspect deceased at 0025
hours.
Special Investigations Unit (SIU) detectives interviewed multiple witnesses at the scene. Witnesses reported
that the decedent had broken into at least one vehicle parked behind the Sam’s Club, which triggered a car
alarm. When employees exited through a rear fire exit door to investigate, the decedent began shooting at
them, prompting them to retreat back inside. The suspect then followed the employees into the building
through the open door. Employees were able to shelter and call 911. No employees were injured during the
incident. One HPD officer sustained a minor cut to his hand.
