Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters)
Summary:
El Paso Police Officers from Pebble Hills Regional Command Center (PHRCC) were called to assist the
Pebble Hills Tactical unit (TAC) with a wanted subject. PHRCC TAC officers (plain clothes) were conducting
surveillance on a wanted subject (decedent) after an investigation into 2 separate Aggravated Robberies
identified the decedent as being responsible. TAC officers completed warrants for the arrest of the decedent
(Active criminal warrants JMAG2409636/JMAG2409637). While conducting surveillance, the decedent was
observed in the area of Vista Del Sol and Larry Wadkins and TAC requested a marked unit/uniformed
officers, to assist with taking the decedent into custody. The uniformed officers were provided the location of
the decedent by the TAC officers who had active surveillance on him. Uniformed officers approached in a
marked unit and exited to make contact the decedent who immediately began to walk away from the officers.
The decedent was given verbal commands to stop which he continued to disregard. TAC Officer J. Sanchez
#3227 approached the decedent to assist the uniformed officers and observed the decedent reaching for his
waistband at which point a firearm was observed by the officers. The TAC Officer Sanchez deployed his
department issued taser and struck the decedent with the taser prongs, which were ineffective. The decedent
then pulled a firearm from his waistband and pointed it in the direction of the officers at which point both
uniformed officers fired their duty weapon striking the decedent. Patrol officers secured the scene and

moved to the Medical Examiner’s Office. Decedent's weapon was discovered to be a BB gun.
