The vehicle was identified as being involved in a jugging/sliding incident that occurred the previous day, May 24,2025. Officers located the vehicle in the Blue Parking Lot and attempted a traffic stop to identify the subjects in the vehicle. The decedent, later determined to be the driver and sole occupant , fled northbound, entering oncoming lanes of traffic. He attempted to drive northwest across the eastbound lanes of traffic and briefly stopped due to heavy congestion. As a sergeant approached and attempted to detain the decedent by opening the driver's door, the decedent continued driving northwest, pinning the sergeant between the Custodial Death Report :: Page 6 of 7 --- PAGE BREAK --- decedent's vehicle and another vehicle, which was traveling eastbound. The sergeant feared serious bodily injury or death so he discharged his duty weapon approximately five times, striking the decedent. The decedent sustained gunshot wounds to the face, chest , and leg and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The sergeant was also transported for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. On July 7, 2025, at approximately 9:47 PM , the decedent succumbed to his injuries. At the time of his death, the decedent had been charged with Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant. Custodial Death Report :: Page 7 of 7
