Under Restraint: No Summary of Incident Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters) Summary: ~~On July 6, 2016, Inmate Maurice Hawkins (SPN 01998566) died in custody at St Joseph Hospital located at1401 St Joseph Parkway, Houston, Texas 77002. Inmate Hawkins was pronounced deceased by attending physician Dr. Carol Strickland with CIMA Hospice Care at 03:09 hours. Inmate Hawkins, a Black male, 43 years of age had been in the custody of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office since his arrest for Theft from Person and Burglary of Motor Vehicle with a $7,500.00 bond on each case. Case # 1504284 (Theft) and #1500980 (Burg) are assigned to the 230th District Court. The following is a synopsis of the death of Inmate Hawkins: On March 2, 2016, @ 19:38 hours, Inmate Hawkins was processed into the Harris County Jail for Theft from Person and Burglary of a Motor Vehicle, with a $7,500.00 bond on each case. June 14, 2016, at approximately 0545 hours Detention Officer Avila was advised by inmate Hawkins he was not feeling well, asking Avila to contact Medical. June 14, 2016, at approximately 0600 hours, Inmate Hawkins was escorted to 701 Medical by staff. June 14, 2016, Inmate Hawkins was subsequently transferred to 1200 Medical for further medical evaluation. June 14, 2016, after evaluation by Medical staff, Inmate Hawkins was subsequently transported back to his housing location, 7K1. June 14, 2016, at approximately 1148 hours D.O. Rodgers was advised by inmates of 7K1 that an inmate was having a seizure. Rodgers advised the clinic Inmate Hawkins was suffering another medical emergency. At 1152 hours Medical personnel responded, transporting ~~Hawkins to the 701Clinic. Inmate Hawkins was subsequently transported to St. Joseph Hospital by HFD Unit #17. June 14, 2016 at approximately 12:45hours, (upon arrival at ER) Inmate Hawkins was placed on life support. June 30, 2016, at approximately 15:42 hours, Inmate Hawkins was removed from life support. July 6, 2016, Inmate Hawkins was pronounced deceased by Dr. Carol Strickland with CIMA Hospice Care at 03:09 hours. In-Custody Death Notifications were made by Deputy Duke and Communications.
