Custodial Death Report :: Page 6 of 7 --- PAGE BREAK --- Officers learned from the reportee that the suspect emailed the reportee advising he was suicidal. Upon arrival, officers attempted to make contact with the suspect by knocking on the door of the apartment; however, the suspect did not answer. The reportee and officers had reason to believe the suspect was suicidal and were concerned about the suspect's welfare; therefore, officers sought to make entry. Officers requested the Houston Fire Department's assistance with breaching the front door. Upon entry officers announced themselves, and once inside the front living room, the suspect fired one gunshot in their direction. As the officers retreated outside of the apartment, the suspect fired another gunshot. Officers immediately notified dispatch and created a perimeter around the apartment, at which point the suspect fired a third gunshot. Notifications were made, and officers assigned to the Special Weapons and Tactics ( S. W. A. T.) arrived and deployed an drone inside the apartment. The drone discovered the suspect lying on his bathroom floor, unresponsive, with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. S.W.A.T. officers entered the apartment and found the suspect had succumbed to his injuries, and he was subsequently pronounced deceased. No police officers discharged any weapons or used any force on the scene. No officers were injured. Custodial Death Report :: Page 7 of 7
