Additional calls identified the person as Larry Harvey. Sherman Police were looking for Harvey as a suspect in the robbery of the First United Bank on 09-16-23. The first officer arrived at the business and was given a description of Harvey and where he was last seen. The officer approached the west side of the business that was not illuminated. The officer saw Harvey and directed him to "show his hands" several times. Harvey replied "no", then used his right hand to raise his shirt and remove what appeared to be a handgun out of the front waistband. The officer, believing he was in imminent danger, fired his department issued handgun. Harvey fell to the ground and did not move any further. The Texas Rangers were contacted and Ranger Peacock arrived on scene to conduct the investigation. His investigation determined that the officer had missed impacting Harvey and Harvey used his own handgun to commit suicide. Therefore, the officer did not shoot Harvey. At the time of the event, Harvey had an active warrant for his arrest for the robbery, but that information had not been disseminated publicly. Custodial Death Report :: Page 6 of 6
