Summary of Incident
Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters)
Summary:
On the date and time of incident, San Marcos officers received an alert of a stolen vehicle being driven
through the city. The vehicle was located in our city near Hopkins/Cheatham streets. A stop was attempted,
and the vehicle fled, which led police on a pursuit south on IH 35 out of our jurisdiction and into New
Braunfels. New Braunfels police also assisted and were able to eventually spike and flatten one of the tires on
the fleeing vehicle. Despite this, the pursuit continued for some time and the vehicle eventually crashed

through a closed/secured gate at a quarry that was closed for the night. The vehicle, now with NBPD as a
primary officer in pursuit, crashed into a boulder that lined the top of a quarry. With the vehicle now disabled,
but occupants exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The decedent (passenger) ran over a quarry edge falling
over sixty feet to his death. Because of the low visibility conditions of nighttime and dust in the air, SMPD
units were not on scene yet when the occupants fled.
Because of the obvious death after the fall, no first aid was rendered.
There were weapons found in the vehicle and near the deceased. Officers believed they had been fired upon
during the pursuit, but no impacts were found on police vehicles.
SMPD CID, SMPD Internal Investigations, and Texas Rangers are investigating.
