Under Restraint: No Summary of Incident Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters) Summary: Officer was on routine patrol and observed two vehicles that had collided in the intersection of Legacy and Independence Parkway. Officer made contact with both drivers and proceeded to clear debris from the roadway and collect information. During this process, the suspect returned to the vehicle she had been driving and retrieved various items. As the officer was collecting vehicle information, the suspect walked to the driver's door of the second vehicle involved in the collision. The suspect reached through the driver's window and began stabbing the driver with a knife she had retrieved from the vehicle she had been driving. Custodial Death Report :: Page 6 of 7 --- PAGE BREAK --- The officer observed the altercation and intervened by pulling the suspect away from the car door. The suspect turned toward the officer and began stabbing him multiple times with a large knife. The officer drew his service pistol and pointed it toward the suspect as she moved toward the front of the victim's vehicle. The officer maneuvered around the back of the vehicle and called for backup. The suspect entered the victim's vehicle through the passenger door still carrying the knife and the officer discharged his weapon striking the suspect three times. The officer removed the suspect from the vehicle and attempted to handcuff her. She resisted and he was unable to handcuff her due to his injury. Backup officers arrived and they were able to secure the suspect and administer first aid. The officer, victim, and suspect were transported to the hospital due to their injuries.
