During the traffic stop, it was discovered that Mr. Anderson did not possess a valid driver's license, and the vehicle was found to be uninsured. Mr. Anderson was placed under arrest for MVR, Driving While License Invalid (DWLI), and for Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility (FMFR). Mr. Anderson was transported to the Killeen City Jail for booking. Mr. Anderson was processed and placed in a cell with other arrestees. Around two (2) hours later, Mr. Anderson told a Jailer that he needed to go to the hospital. The jail staff attempted to find out what was wrong with Mr. Anderson, but he would not immediately answer their questions. Eventually, Mr. Anderson advised "swallow" but did not give any more details. Killeen EMS was called to the jail to assess Mr. Anderson, and it was determined that he would be transported to the hospital for further evaluation. As Mr. Anderson had been arrested for Class C traffic-related offenses, he was released from Jail so that he could get medical attention. EMS transported Mr. Anderson to Seton Medical Center, Harker Heights, and released from custody. Around 10:22 PM, Seton Medical Center contacted KPD to notify us of the death of Mr. Anderson. Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson had already pronounced Mr. Anderson's time of death as 9:28 PM. Mr. Anderson was taken to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Science (SWIFS) for an autopsy. Upon investigation by the KPD Criminal Investigation Division, it was found that Mr. Anderson had concealed what was believed to be an unknown narcotic in his right shoe when he was sitting in the back seat of the patrol vehicle. Mr. Anderson was seen on video removing the unknown narcotic from his shoe with his right hand and ingesting the unknown narcotic before being processed into the city jail. An autopsy was performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Science in Dallas, TX. The autopsy report advised that the death was ruled as Accidental as a result of Overdose of Methamphetamine. No further actions were taken. NFI SGT Martin #211 Custodial Death Report :: Page 6 of 7 --- PAGE BREAK --- Custodial Death Report :: Page 7 of 7
