Yes, mark which Under Restraint: restraint devices were used Type of restraint Type of Restraint: Handcuffs Summary of Incident Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters) Summary: On 05/13/18 at approximately 2245 hours Mr. Rodriguez was brought to the Comal County Jail for Driving While Intoxicated 2 Offense by the Texas Department of Public Safety. On 05/14/18 at approximately 1434 hours he was moved from the holding cell into cellblock Q-1. On 05/15/18 1035 hours inmates in cellblock Q-1 advised floor officers that Mr. Rodriguez was acting strange. Officers then had Mr. Rodriguez exit cellblock Q-1. Once outside the cell officers attempted to escort Mr. Rodriguez towards the booking area to have medical personnel check him out. Mr. Rodriguez became non-compliant and combative with officers. Mr. Rodriguez began to struggle with officers and remained combative. Once control was regained, officers escorted him to Violent Cell #2 and secured him in that location. While in the cell Mr. Rodriguez remained non-compliant with officers and medical staff. At approximately 1039 hours 05/15/18 Mr. Rodriguez was placed on suicide watch and 15 minute security checks were initiated. On 05/17/18 at approximately 1243 hours Corrections Officer Emeterio Silguero checked on Mr. Rodriguez and found him to be laying on his back on the cell floor next to the door and unresponsive. Medical staff was advised of this and responded to Violent Cell #2. Medical staff began to treat and assess Mr. Rodriguez. New Braunfels EMS was called and responded to the Comal County Jail. New Braunfels EMS arrived and transported Mr. Rodriguez to Christus Santa Rosa Hospital New Braunfels Texas. After his arrival at Christus Santa Rosa medical personnel had Mr. Rodriguez airlifted to University Hospital. On 05/18/18 at approximatley 1718 hours Mr. Rodriguez was released from our custody on receipt of a PR Bond issued by Judge Charles Stephens, Comal County Court At Law #2. On 06/05/18 at approximately 1754 hours Texas Ranger Joey Evans notified our agency and advised that Mr. Rodriguez had passed away. Texas Ranger Joey Evans will be investigating the circumstances of Mr. Rodriguez's death. Autopsy results are pending.
