Summary:
On Sunday, November 30, 2025, at approximately 7:24am, officers with the Houston Police Department were
dispatched to a Disturbance call at 3300 San Jacinto St #421. Upon their arrival they met with Houston Fire
Department personnel riding Engine 07. Officers attempted to make contact with the occupant of the
apartment, later identified as Jonathon Vaden, and could hear him groaning inside his apartment. Houston
Fire Department believed the person to be in medical distress, and officers attempted to gain entry by having
the security guard of the apartment complex open the door with a key. Officers found the door to be secured
by the dead bolt and at this time Houston Fire Department personnel breached the door by force. Upon
gaining entry to the apartment, officers found Mr. Vaden to be the sole occupant of the apartment and was on
the floor in medical distress. Officers also noted that the apartment was in complete disarray and Mr. Vaden
had several superficial injuries that appeared to have been possible sustained while he was in a state of
excited delirium.
While Houston Fire Department was treating Mr. Vaden, he began flailing his arms around on the floor.
Believing that Mr. Vaden may sustain more injuries, Officers restrained Mr. Vaden by placing him in handcuffs
behind his back using two pairs of handcuffs. After Mr. Vaden's arms were secured, officers allowed Houston
Fire Department to continue treating Mr. Vaden. While on the stretcher to be transported to the hospital, Mr.
Vaden became unresponsive, and no pulse was detected. The restrains were removed while Houston Fire
Department administered CPR. Mr. Vaden was transported to Saint Joseph's Hospital where he was
pronounced deceased by Dr. B. Gilani at 9:12 am.
While Mr. Vaden was put in restrains; he was not under suspicion of an offence nor was he under arrest for
an offence and the restraints were merely to protect him from further injuring himself in his distressed state.
An autopsy for Mr. Vaden was performed by Dr. E. Henrie, a pathologist with the Harris County Institute of
Forensic Sciences, under ML#25-4595. Dr. Henrie's ruled the manner of death as Homicide and the cause of
death was determined to be due to Cardiac arrhythmia secondary to stress associated with physical restraint,
blunt force trauma, and methamphetamine toxicity.
