Officers responded to the scene, finding the motel room where the call had plotted, and a disturbance was occurring. Officers made contact with male and female in room of disturbance. Male was contacted by officers and restrained with handcuffs behind back while lying on his stomach on floor of motel room. Male appeared to be having excited delirium and New Braunfels EMS was requested by officers on scene. EMS was dispatched. Male became more combative, where other officers arrived on scene and placed leg restraints and spit mask on male. Officers learned from female in room with male, that the male had recently used methamphetamine and was under the influence. Officers also learned from the female that the male was recently diagnosed with kidney cancer and had one kidney removed. In addition, female Custodial Death Report :: Page 6 of 7 --- PAGE BREAK --- informed officers that the male also suffered from mental health issues as well. EMS arrived on scene and administered Ketamine to male. Male would still have verbal and physical outbursts while restrained and after ketamine administered. The male later appeared to be having medical issues and became non-responsive. Handcuffs and spit mask were removed from male by officers and life saving measures were attempted on scene by EMS. Male passed away on scene. Methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, (smoking pipes), were located in the motel room where male and female were in. Autopsy and toxicology were ordered.
