Summary of Incident
Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters)
Summary:
On April 26, 2026, officers with the Houston Police Department North Belt Division were dispatched to a
“Suspicious Person with a Weapon“ call. Officers were advised of a vehicle that had parked at an apartment
complex, with its occupants exiting and entering an adjacent complex, attempting to rob citizens.
Officers were further informed that there were four male suspects, all wearing masks, and that at least one
suspect was reportedly brandishing a firearm. Upon arrival, officers coordinated with HPD Air Support to
establish a perimeter. As officers were setting up the perimeter, the suspects observed a marked patrol unit
and fled on foot. Officers initiated a foot pursuit.
All four suspects were apprehended at the scene. One of the suspects, (Jeremiah Pruitt) was non-compliant

with officers and was placed into a wrap restraint. The suspect’s speech was incoherent, and he was unable
to complete statements. It is unknown if the suspect was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Houston Fire
Department personnel responded to the scene and evaluated the suspect.
The suspect was subsequently transported to the Harris County Jail, where they began assessing the
suspect. While speaking with the suspect, they were informed that he suffered from Sickle Cell Disease. The
suspect was transported by Houton Fire Department Ambulance 009, to St. Joseph Hospital.
The suspect was admitted to the hospital following transport. On the morning of April 27, 2027, the suspect
became unresponsive. Medical staff initiated life-saving measures. However, the suspect was pronounced
deceased by a hospital physician. The decedent was identified as Jeremiah Pruitt.
On May 1, 2026, I spoke to the Harris County Medical Examiner’s office and was informed an autopsy has
been done but the primary cause of death is still pending.
