Under Restraint: No Summary of Incident Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters) Summary: On 01-10-2017, an Aubrey Police uniformed officer initiated a traffic stop for a speeding violation on a 2014 Ford driven by Jeffrey John Lemonds. Lemonds refused to stop for the marked patrol unit with emergency lighting and siren activated. A pursuit ensued tht continued for approximately 15 minutes and ended in a field behind a residence at 5650 South US 377 in Aubrey. Lemonds exited his vehicle and brandished a shotgun, but never threatened law enforcement. Lemonds discharged one round from his shotgun into the air. Lemonds repeated requests to surrender. He turned the shotgun on himself, fired one round that struck him in the left side of his head and neck, and fell to the ground. The Texas Rangers responded and initiated a custodial death investigation.
