Summary of Incident
Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters)
Summary:
On Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at approximately 8:42 PM, Officers were dispatched to 1308 Bennett Dr in
regards to a concern for welfare, which was described as an unknown male in a resident's garage. Upon
arriving, Officers observed a white male lying on the floor between the washer and dryer. Officer placed the
male in handcuffs due to the fact that the male was a burglary of a habitation suspect at that time. The male
was lying on his stomach and Officers turned the male over and sat him up. Officers then tried to speak to the
male and he appeared to be "out of it" and an ambulance was called for the male for a possible overdose.
Officer said that the male appeared to have irregular breathing and about the time that the ambulance arrived
at the scene he could not detect breathing from the male. Officer then un-handcuffed the male and began to
assist EMS with CPR. Officers did not use force during their contact with the male other than to originally
handcuff him.
The male was transported to Bayshore Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:57 PM.
Autopsy results from the decedent are still pending.
The autopsy results on this case have returned and the manner of death was ruled as Accidental.
The primary cause of death was ruled Acute methamphetamine toxicity.
