SH 225, which is the location of a Shell gas station. Mr. Shaw was transported to the Pasadena jail where he was booked and confined without incident. At approximately 6:13 a.m., the jail staff was notified by other inmates that Mr. Shaw was convulsing on the floor of the jail cell. In an attempt to render aid, the jail staff tried to restrain Mr. Shaw; however, he was combative. As a result, the jailers used a Taser in an attempt to subdue him to minimize injury to themselves Custodial Death Report :: Page 6 of 7 --- PAGE BREAK --- or Mr. Shaw through the use of physical force. Mr. Shaw was eventually restrained by the jail staff until emergency medical services arrived and administered medical aid. While Mr. Shaw was being transported to Bayshore Hospital by ambulance, the medical staff had to perform CPR. After Mr. Shaw arrived at the hospital, he received additional medical care. Unfortunately, he was later pronounced deceased on March 29, 2019, at 12:15pm. The death is currently under investigation by the Pasadena Police Department, the Medical Examiner Service with Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, and the Harris County District Attorney's Office. Pasadena Police detectives have interviewed the other inmates in Mr. Shaw's cell and conducted a cursory review of the jail surveillance video. To this point in the investigation, witness and jail staff statements are consistent with what is depicted on jail surveillance video. This incident is still under investigation.
