Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters)
Summary:
On Wednesday, April 27, 2022, members of the Houston Police Department's Narcotics Tactical Team were
searching for a suspect with three felony warrants. At approximately 2:45 PM, Officers observed the suspect
get into the passenger seat of vehicle, which proceeded to leave the location. Officers initiated a traffic stop.
The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and a pursuit ensued. Officers performed a PIT maneuver, which
caused the vehicle to travel in the opposite direction. Officers were able to block the vehicle's path as it came
to a stop.
The suspect exited the passenger side of the vehicle, then quickly returned to the vehicle's passenger side
interior. The suspect emerged from the vehicle with objects in his hands as the officer gave verbal commands
for the suspect to show his hands. The officer discharged his weapon one time, striking the suspect. Officers
began medical treatment on the suspect and he was transported to the hospital, where he was later
pronounced. It was later determined one of the objects the suspect was holding was a small bag, which
contained a loaded handgun.
