Summary:
On September 28, 2026, at approximately 1630 hours, the Houston Police Department (HDP) Gang
Division-Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) was conducting surveillance to apprehend Suspect Jacob Deleon for an

outstanding felony warrant for indecency with Child – Sexual Contact. They used law enforcement databases
to confirm his place of employment. The arrived at 9619 Yupondale Street and observed the suspect’s vehicle
in the employee parking lot. They called the business and verified with the manager that the suspect did work
for the business and that he was currently on site.
The officers planned to wait for Suspect Deleon to get off work, around 2100 hours, and then attempt an
arrest. The manager spoke with one of the officers on scene and requested to assist by speaking with the
suspect and having him walk out peacefully. The officers agreed, but after the manager spoke with the
suspect, he refused to turn himself in. Moments later, the suspect attempted to evade officers on foot out the
back door. Shortly later he returned to the business and hid inside.
The officers on scene requested additional assistance to the scene, including a K-9 Officer and their canine
partner. The officers received permission from the manager to enter and search the property. The manager
used surveillance footage to inform officers what portion of the building Suspect Deleon was located in. Two
CRU officers and the K-9 officer entered the well-lit portion of the building and began searching for the
suspect. The K-9 officer’s dog alerted on a door, prompting the officers to suspect that Deleon was inside that
room.
Upon entering the small, dark room, the K-9 officer immediately saw the suspect with her weapon mounted
light and repeatedly issued verbal commands to show his hands; however, the suspect did not comply. The
HPD K-9 officer then deployed the canine. The officers observed suspect Deleon armed with a large knife,
swinging it and attempting to stab the police canine and potentially the officers. At that point, the K-9 officer
and one of the CRU officers discharged their duty weapons striking the suspect.
The officers rendered aid until the Houston Fire Department arrived on scene and pronounced the suspect
deceased at 2159 hours. The Harris County Medical Examiner’s Officer ruled the death a Homicide from
Multiple Gunshot Wounds.
