Summary of Incident
Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters)
Summary:
On July 15, 2018, at approximately 4:00 p.m., the Alvin Police Department received a 9-1-1 call regarding a
disturbance at a residence in the 500 block of N. Fifth Street. The caller reported the actor, Isaac O. Chapa
III, was suicidal and had fired a shot inside the home. Officers responded and discovered that Chapa had fled
the scene on a motorcycle with the firearm.
Within minutes, the officers located the Chapa’s motorcycle at 2102 W. Lang Street, Alvin Missionary Baptist
Church. As officer began searching the property for Chapa he emerged from an adjacent wooded area with
the firearm. As officers moved closer they gave repeated instructions for Chapa to put the weapon on the
ground. Chapa finally threw the weapon on the ground behind him. The officers began to move closer and
gave repeated instructions for him to get on the ground. At the same time Chapa began to shout to the
officers “shoot me”. Chapa then began moving towards the gun. Officers began shouting commands for him
to stay away from the weapon and don’t do it. Chapa then suddenly knelt and retrieved the gun and brought it
back up as the officers moved in on him. One officer discharged his pistol at Chapa and he fell to the ground.
The officers immediately began administering aid to Chapa until the arrival of EMS at which time he was
transported to Clear Lake Regional Hospital. Isaac O Chapa III was pronounced dead at the hospital.
