Mr. Peterson called and told police that if they were not at his residence in five minutes, he would start killing people. HPD Officers assigned to North Patrol Division responded to the call located at the Palace Inn located at 3421 Antoine Drive. While enroute officers were updated that the suspect was firing a gun and had possible shot several people. Officers arrived on scene at approximately 2326 hours and they immediately observed the suspect standing on the second floor balcony of the motel firing at them. Several HPD patrol vehicles were struck with rounds from the suspect upon them. After observing the suspect, officers noticed that there were two people on the balcony that were lying down and unresponsive. At this time, officers observed the male suspect come out of his room that was the 2nd floor and he fired at them. Fearing for their lives and the lives of fellow officers, three HPD Officers returned fire and struck the suspect rendering him deceased. Officers then cautiously approached and found the two downed individuals were also deceased. Prior to the gunfire exchange with officers it was discovered that two other complainants were struck by gunfire by the suspect who were able to feel the scene. One complainant was struck in the upper left arm and drove himself to the hospital. The other complainant was struck in the right forearm and hand and was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital-Medical Center where he was treated for non-life threatening gunshot wounds. No officer was injured during this incident. This investigation is still on-going. Custodial Death Report :: Page 7 of 7
