Officers were unable to locate the male at this time. On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at approximately 12:04am, two Brownwood police officers believed they located the male suspect at his workshop in the 3000blk of Franke St. Both officers parked their patrol vehicles in the 2900blk of Franke St and were standing between their patrol vehicles (unsure if a crime had been committed) when the male suspect drove upon them and began firing an automatic firearm into the driver side window of both patrol vehicles. Both officers' dove to the ground, seeking cover then returned fire. It is unknown if the Custodial Death Report :: Page 6 of 7 --- PAGE BREAK --- male suspect was struck. The male suspect then drove around the block and returned to this location as the officers were assessing their vehicles and checking for their own injuries. When the male suspect returned, gunfire was again exchanged before the male suspect drove off. The male suspect drove onto Norwood St and, in the 900blk, traveled toward patrol vehicles that were responding to assist in this 'shots fired' call. As the male suspect drove toward approaching police vehicles, both groups slowed, the approaching officers came to a stop, and then the male suspect opened fire with a firearm as he continued to drive past them. Two patrol officers exchanged gunfire with the male as he drove past. The officer in the lead patrol vehicle was shot in his left shoulder and left ear. The male suspect came to a stop at the end of the block, then drove his pickup in reverse, to returned to the stopped police vehicles. Gunfire was exchanged again, and the male suspect slumped over the steering wheel and his vehicle drifted in reverse until hitting a parked pickup. Custodial Death Report :: Page 7 of 7
