Custodial Death Report :: Page 6 of 7
--- PAGE BREAK ---
On Friday, January 12, 2024 at approximately 2:02 am Hidalgo County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to
west of Mile 7 West Road on Farm to Market Road 2812, north on Beach Street to numeric address of 24526
Beach Street in rural Edcouch, Hidalgo County, Texas, for a reported Domestic Dispute call that was later
reclassified as an Injury to a Child.
Hidalgo County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to the address of 24526 Beach Street for a report of an
adult male who had taken his infant child and would not let the child go. Deputies were told that the child was
in danger of being injured by the male, who was later identified as the infant child's father, Guillermo Rojas.
Family members of Guillermo Rojas attempted to take the child from its father, Guillermo Rojas but were
unable to do so. Guillermo Rojas laid on top of the child with his body at which time Guillermo Rojas step son
struck him on the head with a metal pipe wrench. Guillermo Rojas then got up and off his infant child and
began to chase his step son around the neighborhood until Hidalgo County Sheriff's Deputies arrived on
scene.
After a brief struggle Hidalgo County Sheriff's Deputies were able to detain Guillermo Rojas using handcuffs
and Leg shackles. Sheriff's Deputies noticed that Guillermo Rojas had been injured so Emergency Medical
Services, who had been staging nearby were advised to proceed to the incident location. While Emergency
Medical Services were attempting to load Guillermo Rojas for transport, they noticed he was unresponsive,
handcuffs were then removed.
Guillermo Rojas was transported to the Doctors Hospital at Renaissance where his time of death was ruled at
3:31am. This case was turned over to the Texas Rangers for further investigation.
On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, autopsy results for Guillermo Rojas were received. Cause of death was
ruled to be cardiopulmonary arrest while in restraints and following a struggle in an individual with acute
cocaine intoxication and cardiomyopathy. Manner of death was undetermined.
