Upon arrival, I met with jail staff, who advised that a visual check of the inmate Gilbert Rodriguez, who was housed in an isolation cell IC6-D, attempted suicide and C.P.R was in progress. Gilbert was subsequently transported by E.M.S Unit #924 to St. David's hospital Bastrop, Texas, where he was pronounced deceased at 903 hrs. I was advised by jail staff Gilbert was the only person inside the isolation cell at the time of the incident. I was further advised, Gilbert used a jail mattress cover as a ligature, which he tied to the bars on the door of the cell. Gilbert then proceeded commit suicide by hanging. After being advised the male was deceased, the cell was processed. JP-2 Judge Davis and Texas Ranger Brent Barina were advised. I then began to obtain all information, records, video and interviews related to the incident, which the investigation is on-going. On April 10, 2019, I conducted a follow-up at the Travis County Medical Examiner's office, where I met with Dr. Jennifer Dierksen, who is the point of contact over the case (PA 19-01826). Upon conclusion of the autopsy, Dr. Dierksen stated the preliminary cause of death was Hanging/Suicide. Dr. Dierksen advised no foul play was suspected. Custodial Death Report :: Page 6 of 6
