Under Restraint: No Summary of Incident Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters) Summary: On Thursday, March 13, 2025, at 1444 hours, McKinney Police Dispatch received a call from a female stating that her friend was shot in the parking lot of Red Roof Inn, 1300 N Central Expressway NB. Officers arrived and located the victim who had a gunshot wound to her neck. Her vehicle was in the middle of the parking lot with a bullet hole through the front passenger window. Several witnesses reported the shooter to be a male on the second floor. The male was identified as Freddie Ware. Ware came outside of his hotel room several times to look around at the Police but then went back inside of his room. He would not surrender to the Police. Ware was speaking to Police Negotiators on the phone. Eventually, he exited the room and began walking around on the balcony. He was holding a cell phone up to his ear in one hand and his other hand was concealed in his jacket pocket. Ware was yelling at Officers who were telling him to take his hand out of his pocket and show them his hands. Ware continued to yell obscenities at them and then walked down the stairs. A Police K-9 was deployed on Ware once he walked to the ground level. Ware removed and displayed a handgun from his left jacket pocket. Custodial Death Report :: Page 6 of 7 --- PAGE BREAK --- Three Officers reacted to the threat of Ware pulling the gun and they fired approximately 12 shots from their rifles at Ware, striking him multiple times. Ware fired two shots at the Police K-9 and the K-9 was killed. Ware was treated at the scene and taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
