Inmate Franklin Brooks Greathouse w/m 4-4-1959 was found unresponsive in his cell. Greathouse had been arrested and booked into the jail by the Texarkana TX Police Department for a warrant out of Miller County, AR. He was booked into the jail on 3-10-2019 @ 9:45pm. Greathouse was a repeat inmate that was known to jail staff as a chronic drinker with numerous alcohol related arrests. Greathouse is homeless and listed a friend as an emergency contact for jail documents. LaSalle Corrections Officers (LaSalle Corrections is a private contractor tasked with the operation of the Bowie County JaiL) observed that Greathouse smelled of alcohol during his time within the facility. Greathouse complained of a seizure on 3-11-2019 and was seen by LaSalle Corrections Medical. Greathouse was responsive and able to walk to his own cell within F-Pod; dispelling his claim of seizure. Greathouse remained in his cell throughout the day and was observed by his cell-mate Albert Partain. At approximately 7pm, near shift change, Inmate Albert Partain found Greathouse lying on the cell floor unresponsive. LaSalle Corrections LPN Brittany Cooksey responded along with several Correctional Officers. Life Net Ambulance Service also responded. CPR was performed from time of discovery until 7:57pm when EKG showed no signs of life. The cell/pod was emptied of other inmates and the scene was secured. Bowie County Sheriff’s Office Captain Robby McCarver responded along with Bowie County Investigator Chad Ford and DPS Texas Ranger Joshua Mason. Greathouse showed no signs of obvious trauma and the scene within the jail revealed no evidence of foul play. Justice of the Peace Todd Fore ordered an autopsy and the decedent was transported to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences at Dallas. LaSalle Corrections employees were interviewed along with the inmates occupying F-Pod. Video of the pod has been obtained from the time that Greathouse entered the facility until he was found unresponsive, including life-saving efforts. There were no indications of foul play. Medical records for Greathouse have been obtained from Wadley Regional Medical Center and forwarded to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences at Dallas. To date, then manner and cause of death is “pending” from the Medical Examiner. Custodial Death Report :: Page 6 of 6
