Custodial Death Report :: Page 6 of 7 --- PAGE BREAK --- Earlier in the day, deputies attempted to arrest the suspect, Eric Drake Feenstra, at a residence for multiple felony warrants involving Burglary of a Building, Assault on a Public Servant, and a Parole Violation-Fraudulent Possession of Identifying Information. The suspect fled from the residence into a heavily wooded area. Local law enforcement officers and officers with the Texas Department of Public Safety arrived and began setting up a perimeter. While establishing a perimeter, the suspect emerged from the woods and fired a firearm. No one was struck by gunfire. DPS Aircraft pilots began flying over the area and located the suspect moving through the woods. On December 10, 2020, at approximately 2:07 AM, SRT officers entered the woods and were able to get close to the suspect's location; however, the thick woods prevented the officers from seeing the suspect. The suspect again fired a firearm indiscriminately. No officers returned fire, and no officers were injured. SRT officers exited the woods and monitored the suspect's movements with the assistance of DPS Aircraft. Another SRT team and a Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) canine team responded to assist. Upon arrival and deployment of the TDCJ canine team, the suspect again began to flee in the woods and fired shots. The suspect was observed going to a metal building. At approximately 10:00 AM, SRT officers moved to the suspect's location. All efforts to establish communication with the suspect were unsuccessful. During the clearing of the building, SRT officers found the suspect hiding under a blanket in a woodpile. The suspect exited the building while still in possession of a handgun and refused to relinquish it. At approximately 1:00 PM, the suspect began to manipulate the weapon with both hands. In response to the suspect's actions and continued refusal to relinquish the weapon, multiple SRT officers fired their weapons at the suspect. the suspect was struck multiple times and was pronounced deceased.
