Summary of Incident
Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters)
Summary:
On Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at approximately 2320 HRS Georgetown 911 received a call requesting
police officers respond to 706 Garden Meadow Drive regarding an attempted burglary of a habitation. The
male caller identified himself as Dylan and stated he heard loud banging noises and saw an individual run
from his residence but could not give a direction of travel. Dylan stated this had occurred within the last
couple of minutes. Dylan was asked if he was expecting anyone visiting his residence which he advised he
did not. Before the operator hung up Dylan asked if the police were on the way.
It is believed Dylan’s purpose of calling 911 was to lure police officers to his residence in an attempt to
ambush the officers. Dylan hid himself behind vehicles in his driveway. Dylan initially was armed with an
AR-15 style rifle and a 45/410 caliber Taurus revolver.
Dylan’s mother, Shawnalee Olmeda, heard her front door of her residence alarm go off and went to check her
video surveillance and noticed her son was outside with a weapon. Shawnalee went to check on Dylan and
found him with a rifle and took the weapon away from him, however, she didn’t know he was armed with the
handgun.

Georgetown Police Officer Colby Rodgers arrived on scene and was immediately fired upon by Dylan. Officer
Cody Rodgers was dressed in a Georgetown Police uniform. Officer Rogers was struck in both of his legs.
Officer Rogers returned fire at Dylan. Dylan was not struck by Officer Rodger’s gunfire.
At this time Officer Ashley Wall arrived in the cul-de-sac in her fully marked Georgetown Police vehicle. Dylan
engaged her with gunfire and approached her position firing his weapon. Several rounds struck Officer Wall’s
vehicle and one round struck her in her ankle.
Officer Rodgers was able to return fire and Dylan was struck one time in the chest.
Dylan Olmeda died at the scene from his wounds. Officers injuries were non-life threatening.
Dylan Olmeda body was transported to the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
Cause of Death: Gunshot wound to chest.
Manner: Homicide
This case was presented to a Williamson County Grandy Jury and they concluded the officers use of deadly
force was justified.
