Summary:
Amarillo Police originally responded to a disturbance on the 1900 block of NW 14th Ave where no crime was
reported at 7:03 a.m.
Potter County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an aggravated robbery at a business near Loop 335 and North
Western Street. PCSO reports that Dustin Johnson, 41, forced his way into the business. A person in the
business fought back and injured Johnson, who left but parked a short distance away.
Johnson returned to the business and shot the person who injured him and the second person who arrived at
the business. Both people were pronounced dead at the scene.
Dustin Johnson then left the scene in a Dodge Ram and was pursued by deputies and Texas Department of
Public Safety troopers, but he was able to evade them.
Dustin Johnson returned to 1901 NW 14th Ave, where he ran his vehicle into the home and then shot into it,
which led to the injury of 5 people and the death of two persons.
Amarillo Police Officers responded to 1901 NW 14th a 2nd time when the suspect returned and multiple
people had called 9-1-1. Callers and witnesses reported that the suspect was wearing body armor and
standing outside of the residence armed with a rifle. Officers confronted the suspect and gave loud verbal
commands to drop his weapon, a rifle. The suspect fired at the officers, who returned fire, shooting him
multiple times. Officers rendered aid, but Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.
