Under Restraint: No Summary of Incident Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters) Summary: ~~On July 22, 2016, Inmate Donald Ray Mathes (SPN00099495) died in custody at Ben Taub Hospital located at 1504 Taub Loop, Houston, Texas 77030. Inmate Mathes was pronounced deceased by attending physician Dr.Hassan Kamran at 1917 hours. Inmate Mathes, a Black male 60 years of age had been in the custody of the Harris County Sheriff's Office since his arrest by HPD for Assault-Bodily Injury to FamilyMember, case # 1495568, with a $25,000.00 bond assigned to the 182nd Dictrict Court and also Theft by Check, case # 2055420, with a $500.00 bond assigned to County Court 13. The following is a synopsis of the death of Inmate Mathes: On January 20, 2016, @ 1530 hours, Inmate Mathes was processed into the Harris County Jail for (1) Assault-Bodily Injury of Family Member ($25,000.00 bond) and (2) Thert by Check ($500.00 bond). On July 7, 2016, Detention Officer Kelly was notified by inmates in 3C2 that Inmate Mathes was “having chest pains and could not get up”. Medical was notified of the emergency. On July 7, 2016 @ approximately 2320 hours Mathes was transported by van to Ben Taub Hospital. On July 22, 2016, @ 1917 hours, Inmate Mathes was pronounced deceased by Dr. Hassan Kamran.
